Video: How to Put On a Tallit
June 16, 2011
In synagogues I frequently see people putting on and/or wearing their Tallit (Jewish prayer shawl) incorrectly, and oftentimes in unthinking or just plain ignorant manner. To correct this injustice I’ve included a video that plainly demonstrates how to do this (and how not to).
Note: follow this link to see my previous post and video on how to put on a tefillin.

tutorial on folding that back up?
” tutorial on folding that back up?”
Ah, that’s the easiest part – just do the exact reverse of unfolding! You did pay attention when you unfolded, right??
I guess you assume that only Jews read your blog, or you are now officially moved to the OL camp?….LOL!
“I guess you assume that only Jews read your blog”
Dan, while it’s true that this blog is primarily for the Jewish audience and mostly focuses on Jewish issues (and I do that unapologetically), I know that my many non-Jewish visitors also like to read it sometimes and even participate in the discussion (which I certainly not only do not mind, but welcome).
“[are] you… now officially moved to the OL camp?”
You wish!:)

What about “them Gentiles” participating in wearing a Talit and Laying Tefilin? Are they still walcome, or the forever should remain in the outside looking in?

Everybody’s welcome to participate in any discussion on my blog, even men wearing polka-dotted dresses and high-heels or even women wearing a thick set of mustaches, as long as they have something useful to contribute to the topic at hand.
I always said you are a nifty dancer……
Kind of ironic, considering that yesterday was my last day at the “old” congregation. I’ll need to find the time to pack up my tallit, kippah, and tefillin and put them in storage somewhere.
Don’t pack away your kippah – you’ll need it for your wife’s shul. Your tallit and tefillin – may be you can inspire a Jewish family member or a Jewish believer to wear those.
Actually, the tefillin belong to one of my sons (they were both bar mitzvahed and learning to pray with tefillin was part of their education). In the event that one or the other should become observant, I think I’ll save the tefillin and tallit for them. As far as the kippah goes, I’ll probably start with wearing the “loaners” at shul. A goy walking in with his own kippah might look rather odd.
